b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources

c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes

d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments

Reflection

This standard emphasizes the use of technology for collaboration. The artifacts that I have chosen for this standard are linked below. One of them is a blog from one of my classes, IT 648.  It promotes student reflection using collaborative tools because it allows students to post a comment, a link to a project, or a reflection and have others in the class leave feedback. In my blog, I had to reflect on my experiences in using hands on projects and/or readings assigned by the instructor. My peers then commented on my reflections to clarify understanding.  A Thinglink project promotes, supports, and models creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness by taking a still image and allowing the user to add links to other media to extend learning. Documents created using Google Drive model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in virtual environments.   The documents in Google Drive allowed for collaboration with my classmates for the group project and my work colleagues for the newsletter.  There was collaboration by many different individuals that helped with creating the final products.

Standard I

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and       technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness

Standard I states one of the most important goals for any educator: facilitate and           inspire student learning and creativity.  It is my goal to use technology in my instruction to enhance learning for my students in both the classroom setting, and in virtual             environments so that their learning can continue even when they are away from             school.  I intend to continue the use of Google Docs to collaborate with my colleagues.   This tool gives us the opportunity to work together whether we are in the same room

Ior in different locations.  It is my goal to use blogs in my instruction to promote reflection and collaboration among my students.  I also intend to continue to develop creative material using digital tools to incorporate into my instruction.  This material engages students and creates enthusiasm among students which sparks their creativity and desire to learn.
